July 2005

Round the back of the now defunct Teeter there’s a recycling centre. This is a good thing, because I have many crates full of paper to recycle. Why have I saved every lifestyle coaching article I’ve ever encountered in the history of my own ability to read? Now such things are available in convenient electronic form I plan to throw all that shit out. Unfortunutely, said recycling center contains nowhere to throw away regular garbage, so I’ve had to resort to illicitly dumping bags of trash in a nearby dumpster. I worry I’ll get arrested, then drafted to fight in Vietnam. Just like in Alice’s Restaurant. But if Arlo Guthrie can get out of the war, then so can I.

As you can see, a day of throwing shit out has affected my sanity. However, my study is almost done: I just have to do more weeding through the filing cabinet (not too ruthlessly, because that takes too long; just thoroughly enough to throw out files that clearly never should have been filed in the first place), and go through my desk drawers. Does anyone know if you’re supposed to empty all your filing cabinet drawers for the movers, or just the top two or three?

After the study is done (probably tomorrow morning) it’s on to Phase The Next: taking larger things to the dump. It looks like I have a taker on the futon, freeing up much-needed floor space for boxes of crap. After we’ve moved the futon, it will be time for a Loco Pop.

Today’s moving soundtrack (I think I’ll make this a regular feature): Anniemal, by Annie; the Beastie Boys’ To the Five Burroughs and Hello Nasty, plus the first Antibalas album.

And now I know why people blog in detail about the more mundane aspects of their lives: it’s as cathartic as it is boring. More excitement tommorow.

I’m taking notes, you know. For use in 56… 55… days.

Well, your moving blog is already much less banal than mine. And hey, I liked your reference to the Canadian ambassador’s use of the term “Canadian diaspora” for Canadians living in the US. It makes being Canadian seem more like being Jewish.
